Okay, this was the most inspirational and most amazing movie I have seen this year. (and no, it's not because I like yaoi or shit like that) Sean Penn was just..amazing. I tried to hold the tears back when watching this movie and God...I don't know what else to say but it has truly inspired me and in a sense it has reminded me of how proud I am to be a San Franciscan...I love how San Francisco is such an accepting community and everyone can be who they want to be.
I am also awestruck at how Harvey Milk and homosexuals fought so hard to gain the rights they deserved...It's so incredible and has moved me deeply.
How Milk and the rest of the citizens and California (especially in San Francisco) worked and fought to prevent Prop 6 from passing in the 1970s and now this reminds me about the bitter fight that is going on right now in California about Prop 8...how people are protesting and fighting hard to overturn it. Unfortunately is passed and I just decided to let it go since the votes were from the voices from the people and there was really nothing we could do about it..but after watching this movie I feel like that I wanna do something about the issue. I was never supportive of Prop 8 but I don't want to stand on sidelines and just watch anymore. Something must be done and I want to contribute. Or not just Prop 8...I want to even at least help people and encourage them that it's okay to come out of the closet and that they shouldn't be afraid anymore. Those kind of people should know there are still people who won't turn them down because of their sexuality or that there will always be people who will care for them.
I am also very angry at how there are still many people who could just be so stuck-up and ignorant. -coughcough-sarahpalin-coughcough- Homophobia just disgusts me...
and well, unfortunately I am super tired right now but there is sooooo much more I want to say. God, that was a good cry. (lol uh yeah, I cried the whole time I was writing this...I am so lost in words right now)
I highly recommend you guys watch Milk. It's not another Brokeback Mountain movie, but this is such a powerful and...gawd i dunno, it was just incredible. (It beats the crap out Twilight, believe me).
But as of right now, I'm just totally inspired to make a difference and stand up for what I feel is right. I don't give a shit about what is moral or not, depriving a simple civil right from people is not what should be done. (I could go into more detail but like I said...I'm tired. >_>;;; )
so I guess that sums up all that I'm thinking about right now...I could express myself in many other ways but this is the best I can do for now. =/ It's 1AM and eh...I've been bawling. lol.
Harvey Milk...a true hero.
"I have tasted freedom. I will not give up that which I have tasted. I have a lot more to drink. For that reason, the political numbers game will be played. I know the rules of their game now and how to play it."
- Harvey Milk, in his 1973 concession speechMore people have been slaughtered in the name of religion than for any other single reason. That, my friends, that is true perversion.
-another Harvey Milk quote...and my most favorite:
"It's not my victory, it's yours and yours and yours. If a gay can win, it means there is hope that the system can work for all minorities if we fight. We've given them hope."
- Harvey Milk, after winning a seat on the Board of Supervisors in 1977oh! and another favorite of mine:
"If a bullet should enter my brain, let that bullet destroy every closet door."and the life of Harvey Milk:
